ABOUT US
The Root Cellar is a family-run business on Builth Wells High Street. Owned by Lisa and Joe Wilson, we live in Builth Wells after relocating with our family in 2020. We instantly fell in love with the Welsh way of life, Powys and its people, but we missed having a local greengrocer! So we decided to open our own friendly neighbourhood shop, supplying the best we can find in fresh fruit, vegetables and pantry goods.
We stock as much local produce as possible and especially love working with independent growers and suppliers. Some of our finest seasonal fruit and veg are grown right here in Powys. We also believe that less is often more, especially when it comes to packaging. That's why we have a zero plastics policy - it's banned from our shop! We only use compostable paper bags in-store and cardboard boxes for deliveries.

In addition to our delicious and nutritious fruit and veg, we offer a variety of local Welsh pantry favourites and baking essentials. From artisan jams and chutneys to locally produced honey, we have a range of products to satisfy every taste.
ZERO WASTE REFILLS
From aromatic spices to organic oats and everything in between, we've got a wide choice of loose dry and whole-foods to restock your pantry. Bring your containers and refill as much or as little as you like. We use scales that will take off the weight, so you're only paying for what you need. No empty containers? We have a variety of sized jars to buy or use one of our compostable paper bags. Refilling is eco-friendly and a fantastic way to shop sustainably while caring for our planet.

Through the support of Business Wales, we are proud to have gained our Pledge Badges to Green Growth and Equality. We're committed to reducing waste by donating end-of-week produce to local animal sanctuaries, and we support charitable events where possible.
